Want to play like a pro? Then I’ve got just the technique for you. I call it, the Chraibi Slide.

Check out the video below to learn how to do it!

The Chraibi Slide – Oud Technique

Difficulty: Advanced

Prerequisites techniques: Trill, Tremolo, Slide.

See the Foundation Program to learn how to play these core Oud techniques in-depth.

What?

The Chraibi slide is a flourished slide that I’ve only heard played by Said Chraibi. It is a descending slide or glissando accompanied by tremolo plucking.

Why?

It’s a cool technique that will help you practice your tremolo and finger dexterity.

How?

Use your index finger and middle finger to play a trill on F# and G, then slide down and do a trill on F natural and F#, then down on E and F, and finally on E flat and E natural. This is the essence of the Chraibi Slide. Refer to the video for an in-depth analysis.

Tips for success:

Once you are able to play this fast. Play it fast enough so that it sounds more like a slide than four sets of distinct and separate trills.

Check out my album review of the Said Chraibi album I mention in the video here.

What Next?

The techniques just keep on coming, so stay tuned for more combinations of different techniques!

A lot of people are having difficulty developing their tremolo. This is a technique I teach in-depth in the Oud for Guitarists Foundation Program. Click the link below to learn more about what else you can learn from it.

Hi Navid, thanks for the video. I really really like your teaching style which is simple and easy to follow.
I noticed that you don’t have “contact” info on the site, sorry to use this post, but I was wondering if you offer in person lessons?! Do you live in Vancouver?
